LavauxOron

Lavaux-Oron is a district in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. It was established on 1 January 2006 as part of a cantonal reform that reorganized Vaud’s districts. The district combines the wine-growing Lavaux region with the inland Oron area, spanning a stretch along the northern shore of Lake Geneva and extending into the prealpine foothills.

Geographically, Lavaux-Oron encompasses a landscape that includes terraced vineyards along the lake, small villages, and more rural uplands. The Lavaux vineyards are a defining feature of the district and a key part of its cultural and economic identity. The area is known for wine production, particularly varieties grown in the Lavaux terraced terraces, and for its scenic value that attracts visitors year-round.

Tourism is driven by the lakefront scenery, wine routes, and historic villages. The Lavaux vineyard terraces have UNESCO World Heritage status, highlighting the region’s cultural importance and long-standing viticultural tradition.

Administration and services: Lavaux-Oron functions as an administrative district within Vaud, coordinating inter-municipal services and representing member municipalities in cantonal matters. Local governance remains the responsibility of the individual communes, with the district providing regional coordination.
