Lateralknospen
Lateralknospen is a term used in theoretical botany to describe a late-activating lateral bud that forms along the axis of a plant after the primary shoot has grown to a specified length. The term blends lateralis (Latin for side) with knospen (Dutch/German for bud). It denotes a pattern in which axillary buds remain dormant during early growth and only, under certain cues, resume development to produce lateral shoots.
Morphology and triggers: The latent bud is typically located at a leaf axil, protected by a pair
Ecology and applications: In theory, lateralknospen can contribute to late-stage bushiness, recovery after damage, or adaptation
Limitations: As a term used mainly in theoretical discussions, empirical evidence remains limited, and the concept
