Lastausalueiden, also known as "lastauspäivä" or "return day" in Finnish, refers to the period following the Finnish school year when students return their textbooks, notebooks, and other educational materials to their schools. This tradition is primarily observed in Finnish elementary and secondary schools, typically occurring in late May or early June, coinciding with the end of the academic year.

The practice of returning school materials is rooted in the Finnish education system’s emphasis on resource efficiency and sustainability. By collecting used materials, schools aim to reduce waste and ensure that resources are reused by subsequent student generations. Students are often encouraged to clean and organize their books before returning them to maintain their condition for future use.

Lastausalueiden is not just a logistical process but also carries an educational component. It teaches students responsibility, care for shared resources, and the importance of sustainability from an early age. Schools may organize events or competitions to promote participation, such as the best-organized return or the cleanest notebook.
