Laserindusoitu, also known as laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), is an analytical technique used for the qualitative and quantitative determination of elements in various materials. The process involves the interaction of a high-energy laser pulse with a sample, resulting in the formation of a plasma. This plasma emits light at characteristic wavelengths, which can be analyzed to identify the elements present in the sample.

The LIBS technique is non-destructive and can be applied to a wide range of materials, including solids, liquids, and gases. It is particularly useful for field analysis, as it does not require extensive sample preparation and can be performed in situ. The method is also rapid, with analysis times typically ranging from milliseconds to seconds.

LIBS has numerous applications across various fields. In environmental science, it is used for the analysis of soil, water, and air samples to detect pollutants and contaminants. In materials science, it helps in the characterization of metals, ceramics, and other materials. In archaeology, LIBS is employed for the analysis of artifacts and historical documents to determine their composition and origin. Additionally, the technique finds applications in the food industry for quality control and in the pharmaceutical industry for the analysis of drugs and excipients.

Despite its advantages, LIBS also has limitations. The technique is less sensitive compared to other spectroscopic methods, such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Additionally, the accuracy of LIBS can be affected by matrix effects, where the presence of other elements in the sample can interfere with the analysis. However, ongoing research aims to address these limitations and improve the overall performance of LIBS.
