Larne

Larne is a town and civil parish in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Located on the east coast at the entrance to Larne Lough, it lies to the north-east of Belfast and is the main urban centre on the Antrim coast.

The harbour has long been a focus of trade; growth accelerated in the 19th century with the arrival of the railway and the expansion of ferry services.

The town is a major ferry terminal with regular services to Cairnryan, Scotland; it is connected by road via the A8 to Belfast and by rail on the Belfast–Larne line.

Since 2015, Larne forms part of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council; before that it was the administrative centre of Larne Borough.

The harbour and waterfront define the town, with nearby attractions including the Gobbins Coastal Path on Islandmagee and Blackhead Lighthouse. Larne Lough provides important wildlife habitat for birdlife.
