Lapsityövoimaa

Lapsityövoimaa, or child labor, refers to the employment of children in any work that deprives children of their childhood, is harmful to their health or morals, or interferes with their ability to attend regular school. The term is derived from the Finnish language, where "lapsi" means child and "työvoimaa" means labor power. Child labor is a significant global issue, affecting millions of children worldwide, particularly in developing countries.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) defines child labor as work that children engage in which is mentally, physically, socially, or morally harmful to their well-being and development. This includes hazardous work, long working hours, and work that interferes with their education. The ILO Convention No. 182, adopted in 1999, sets minimum ages for admission to employment and provides for the protection of the health, safety, and morals of young workers.

Child labor is often associated with poverty, as children may be forced to work to support their families. It can also lead to various health issues, including physical injuries, respiratory problems, and mental health issues. Additionally, child labor can hinder a child's education and overall development, limiting their future opportunities.

Efforts to eliminate child labor include education, economic development, and the enforcement of labor laws.
