Pidgins are simplified communication systems that emerge when speakers of different languages need to interact. They typically have a limited vocabulary and simplified grammar, drawing elements from the parent languages. If a pidgin becomes the native language of a community, it evolves into a creole, which is a fully developed language with its own complex grammar and a richer vocabulary. Examples of creole languages include Haitian Creole, Tok Pisin, and Jamaican Patois.

Beyond natural language development, languagecombined can also describe intentional fusions. This might involve code-switching, where speakers alternate between languages within a single conversation.
