Lakkapohjat

Lakkapohjat are base layers used in lacquer finishing. The term is used in Finnish woodworking and industrial coating contexts to describe the foundational coats that precede the final lacquer topcoat. A lakkapohja is selected to promote adhesion, fill pores or wood grain, block stains, and influence the eventual appearance of the lacquer layer. They are used on substrates such as wood, metal, or plastic and can be part of furniture finishing, cabinetry, automotive refinishing, and other coating work.

Lakkapohjat can take various forms, including primers, sealers, or intermediate coats.
