Laitosvirtasiuta

Laitosvirtasiuta is a term used in Estonia to describe a local unit of area measurement. It is often translated to English as "official hectare".

Originating from the Soviet era, Laitosvirtasiuta was introduced as a way to measure land area in Estonia during the time when the country was part of the Soviet Union. Prior to this, different measurements such as sajand and hektar (hector) were used, but they were not uniform and caused confusion.

One Laitosvirtasiuta is equal to 0.1 hectares, which is 10 ares or 100 square metres. The Laitosvirtasiuta was designed to be a more accurate and standardized unit of measurement, particularly for agricultural purposes.

The use of Laitosvirtasiuta has largely been retained in Estonia since gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. It is commonly used in official documentation, surveys, and other administrative tasks, particularly in relation to land ownership and agricultural production.
