Lainattava

Lainattava is a Finnish adjective meaning "that can be borrowed" or "loanable." It is formed from the verb lainata (to borrow) with the present active participle suffix -ttava, and it is used to describe items or materials that may be borrowed from a library, store, or other lending institution.

In libraries and catalogs, lainattava describes materials eligible for lending, in contrast to items that are currently on loan (lainassa) or restricted from lending due to licensing or policy. The term is common in phrases such as lainattavat kirjat (borrowable books) or on shelf signs simply as Lainattavat.

Grammatically, lainattava is an ordinary Finnish adjective. The base form is lainattava; the plural nominative form is lainattavat; genitive is lainattavan; partitive forms include lainattavaa and lainattavia. It is most often used attributively before a noun, for example lainattava elokuva or lainattavat CD-levyt. Limitations: the label refers to materials that lending institutions permit for loan. Some items, such as reference copies, certain digital resources, or materials governed by licensing restrictions, may not be loanable even if the general concept remains described by lainattava in metadata or everyday language.
