Lahustes

Lahustes is a rural municipality and village in the northern lowlands of Veridia, a fictional country. Located near the shores of the Lahar River, it serves as the administrative center for the surrounding countryside. The municipality covers roughly 32 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 1,150 in 2020.

Etymology and origins: The name Lahustes likely derives from a local language word meaning "bright water" or "shore," reflecting the settlement's proximity to waterways. Early records from the medieval period refer to Lahustes as Lahust or Lahysts, with spelling variations over time.

History: The area was settled in the Middle Ages, developing around a parish church and a traditional market on a trade route connecting regional towns. Agriculture, especially dairy farming and grain cultivation, formed the economic backbone through the 19th and 20th centuries. The village experienced modest growth and remained largely rural.

Geography and economy: Lahustes lies on a gentle plain with small patches of woodland and riverine meadows. The economy remains predominantly agricultural, complemented by small-scale manufacturing, forestry, and service enterprises. The surrounding hamlets contribute to local market activity and seasonal labor.
