Lahene

Lahene is a fictional coastal municipality created for reference works and storytelling. It lies on a sheltered bay along the western coast of the imaginary region of Orria. The landscape mixes low hills with mangrove fringes and a curved harbor that has long served as a minor trading point. The name lahene is said to derive from the local dialect, interpreted as harbor or safe haven, though folkloric attributions vary.

The area has a temperate maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers. Annual rainfall is distributed throughout the year. The harbor provides natural protection, while the hinterland includes scrubland and small farms.

Lahene was established in the 15th century by seafaring families and grew as a small port and market town. It is governed by a municipal council elected by residents, with a mayor and a council of representatives from quarter districts. It forms part of the larger Orrian prefecture of Quillon.

The local economy centers on fishing, small-scale aquaculture, processing, and tourism. The population is around 12,000 in the latest census, with a mix of families that have lived there for generations and newcomers from inland regions. The main languages spoken are Lahene (the fictional local language) and the regional language.

Lahene hosts an annual waterfront festival that celebrates maritime heritage, with traditional music, boat parades, and seafood cuisine. Notable sites include the Lahene Lighthouse, the Old Town quarter with 18th-century houses, and the Market Square. A nearby nature reserve protects migratory birds and coastal habitats.
