Laguner

Laguner is a term used in Danish and Norwegian to denote multiple lagoons. It is the plural form of lagune, a coastal water body characteristic of shallow, sheltered inlets formed behind barrier formations. The term is mostly encountered in Scandinavian-language texts and not common in English.

A lagoon is a shallow body of seawater or brackish water separated from the open sea by a barrier such as a sand spit, dune system, or coral reef. Its hydrology is influenced by tides, sedimentation, and freshwater input from rivers, which can create gradients in salinity and ecology.

Lagoons host diverse ecosystems, including mudflats, salt marshes, seagrass beds, and brackish habitats that support birds, fish, crustaceans, and other organisms.
