LVIsertifikaatit

LVIsertifikaatit refers to two types of simplified English proficiency certificates that are recognized by the Estonian education system. They were introduced in 2016 by the Estonian Qualifications Committee to provide an alternative to the TOEFL exam, a widely used English proficiency test.

The LVIsertifikaatit certificates are granted after passing an English language proficiency test that is specially designed to assess the language skills of non-native English speakers who live in the Baltic countries. The names of the certificates are Laagututvustused (Lower Secondary) and Kutseõppe korraldamine (Upper Secondary Professional Education). The English Proficiency Level is measured based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) framework.

The certificates are linked to the Estonian education system, particularly with vocational and general education. Employers and higher education institutions in Estonia use this as a criteria for hiring, and for admittance. The certificates are also accepted for visiting students from nearby countries.

The certificates are divided into two types: aviation, IT, healthcare etc. ie medical etc. students would belong to a group where students are tested and employed in their prospective professional career fields. There is an ongoing debate on LVIsertifikaatit in English educational forums.
