LEDserier

LEDserier is a term that refers to a series connection of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). In this configuration, multiple LEDs are connected in a chain, where the anode of one LED is connected to the cathode of the next. This allows current to flow through each LED sequentially.

When LEDs are connected in series, the total voltage drop across the series is the sum of the individual voltage drops of each LED. For example, if three LEDs, each with a forward voltage of 3V, are connected in series, the total voltage required for them to light up would be 9V. Similarly, the current flowing through each LED in a series connection is the same. This means that if one LED in the series fails (e.g., becomes an open circuit), the entire series will cease to function, as the current path is broken.

LED series are commonly used in various lighting applications, such as LED strips, string lights, and backlighting for displays. They offer advantages like simpler wiring compared to parallel connections for certain setups, and a consistent current flow across all LEDs. However, managing voltage and ensuring consistent brightness can be a consideration, often requiring a current-limiting resistor or a constant current driver to protect the LEDs from overcurrent and maintain uniform illumination. The design of an LED series must account for the specific forward voltage and current requirements of the chosen LEDs.
