LEDBinngüte refers to the quality category or grade assigned to LED components based on binning, the process of sorting LEDs by measured performance. In LED manufacturing, binning groups individual diodes according to characteristics such as color (spectral output and color temperature), brightness (luminous flux or intensity), and electrical properties (forward voltage). The Güte indicates how closely a LED matches target specifications and how tightly the values are controlled within a bin.

The binning process involves testing LEDs after fabrication with measurement equipment such as spectrometers and integrating spheres. Measured parameters typically include correlated color temperature (CCT), chromaticity coordinates, luminous flux, and forward voltage. LEDs are assigned to bins or bin codes that reflect the acceptable ranges around target values. Smaller tolerances imply a higher binning quality, at the cost of more rejects or narrower supply.

Binning quality matters for the consistency of lighting products. Using LEDs from the same bin or closely related bins helps ensure uniform color and brightness across a luminaire and between production lots. It also simplifies color matching in arrays and reduces perceptible variation in white light or colored lighting.

Standards and practice vary by manufacturer. While general measurement methods align with industry standards for color and photometry, bin definitions and bin code schemes are not universally standardized and are often published in datasheets. The concept remains: higher LED binning Güte yields greater predictability and homogeneity, balanced against cost and availability.
