Lærdalsfjorden
Lærdalsfjorden is a branch of the Sognefjorden, Norway's longest and deepest fjord. The fjord is located in Vestland county and is approximately 25 kilometers long. It originates from the main Sognefjorden and extends inland, narrowing as it progresses. The Lærdalsfjorden is bordered by steep mountains, characteristic of the Norwegian fjord landscape. The village of Lærdal is situated at the innermost part of the fjord, giving the fjord its name. The Lærdal River, one of Norway's most important salmon rivers, empties into the Lærdalsfjorden. The fjord is a popular tourist destination, offering scenic beauty and opportunities for activities such as kayaking and fishing. The landscape surrounding the Lærdalsfjorden is known for its natural grandeur and historical significance, with old trading routes and traditional farms dotting the hillsides. The fjord's relatively sheltered position also contributes to its appeal.
