Lämpöshokkitestaukset, known in English as thermal shock testing, are a crucial quality control and reliability assessment method used in various industries, particularly in electronics, automotive, and aerospace. The primary purpose of these tests is to evaluate how a material, component, or product withstands rapid and extreme temperature fluctuations. This stress can reveal weaknesses that might not be apparent under normal operating conditions.

The testing process typically involves subjecting the item to a series of cycles where it is rapidly moved between a high-temperature environment and a low-temperature environment. The duration at each temperature extreme, the rate of temperature change, and the number of cycles are all carefully controlled parameters. For example, a component might be held at 150 degrees Celsius for a set period and then immediately plunged into a chamber at -40 degrees Celsius, followed by a return to the high temperature.

The underlying principle is that rapid temperature changes induce thermal stresses within the material due to differences in thermal expansion and contraction. These stresses can lead to mechanical failures such as cracking, delamination, or changes in material properties.
