Their primary function is to transfer heat from the district heating supply to a building's internal heating and hot water systems. A typical lämmönjakolaitteisto consists of several key parts. A heat exchanger is central to the unit, separating the district heating water from the building's circulation water. This allows for efficient heat transfer without direct mixing of the two water systems. The operation involves hot water from the district heating network flowing through one side of the heat exchanger. On the other side, the building's heating and hot water circuits circulate cooler water. Heat is transferred across the exchanger, warming the building's water. This warmed water then circulates through radiators, underfloor heating, and to taps for domestic use. Once it has released its heat, the cooler water returns to the district heating network to be reheated.
