Kütuseinjektsioon

Kütuseinjektsioon, also known as fuel injection, is a fuel delivery system used in internal combustion engines. It replaces older carburetor systems by spraying fuel directly into the engine's intake manifold or combustion chamber. This precise metering of fuel allows for more efficient combustion, leading to improved fuel economy and reduced emissions compared to carburetors.

There are several types of fuel injection systems. Throttle body injection (TBI) is an older, simpler form where a single injector is located in the throttle body, similar to a carburetor's placement. Multi-point fuel injection (MPI) is more common, featuring an injector for each cylinder, usually located in the intake manifold just before the intake valve. Direct injection (DI) is the most advanced, where fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber itself. This allows for even greater control over the fuel-air mixture and can improve performance and efficiency further.

Modern engines almost exclusively use fuel injection systems. These systems are controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU) or engine control module (ECM), which monitors various sensor inputs such as engine speed, throttle position, and oxygen levels in the exhaust. Based on this data, the ECU precisely calculates and delivers the optimal amount of fuel for the current operating conditions. This sophisticated control is a key factor in the improved performance and environmental friendliness of contemporary vehicles.
