Könsblommornas

Könsblommornas are a group of beautiful and outrageously provocative female impersonators who were active in Gothenburg's gay scene during the 1960s. The word 'könsblommor' roughly translates to'sex flowers' in Swedish. Formed in the early 1960s, the group was one of the first ever all-male revue units in Sweden.

Led by a charismatic young man named Ayl, the group boasted around seven members, each one dressed as an exaggerated caricature of a woman, most often with stereotypically feminine characteristics. The performances were a key part of the Gothenburg gay scene, reportedly extremely popular and attracting large crowds.

Könsblommornas' acts were said to have gone beyond simple female impersonation, incorporating impressive vocal and musical talents alongside intricate dance routines. Because of their association with the gay community and the eccentric performances they gave, they inadvertently helped popularize homosexuality in Sweden and opened the discussions about the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
