Kézifékek
Kézifékek, also known as handbrakes or parking brakes, are mechanical devices used to secure a vehicle when it is parked. They are separate from the primary braking system, which is operated by the brake pedal, and are typically designed to hold the vehicle in place, especially on inclines. The most common type of kézifék in passenger vehicles is a lever located between the front seats or sometimes as a button or pull-handle on the dashboard. When activated, this lever or control engages a mechanism that applies force to the rear wheels, preventing them from rotating. In some vehicles, particularly older models or trucks, a pedal-operated parking brake may be used, typically located to the left of the driver's footwell. The kézifék is a crucial safety feature, intended for use when the vehicle is stationary, to prevent unintended movement. It is generally not designed for stopping a moving vehicle, as its stopping power is significantly less than that of the main hydraulic braking system. Regular maintenance and testing of the kézifék are recommended to ensure its effectiveness.
