Käytettävyysodotukset, or usability expectations, refer to the assumptions users make about how easy and effective a product or system will be to use. These expectations are shaped by a variety of factors, including prior experiences with similar products, the product's marketing and branding, and general cultural understandings of how technology should function. When a product meets or exceeds these expectations, users typically report higher satisfaction and are more likely to continue using it. Conversely, when expectations are not met, users can become frustrated, may abandon the product, and can develop negative perceptions of the brand.

Understanding and managing user usability expectations is a critical aspect of user experience (UX) design and product development. Designers and developers strive to create interfaces and interactions that are intuitive, efficient, and error-tolerant, aligning with what users anticipate. This involves thorough user research to identify common patterns of behavior and mental models. For instance, users expect that a shopping cart icon will consistently lead to a summary of selected items, or that a "back" button will return them to the previous page. Deviations from these established conventions can lead to confusion and a feeling that a product is poorly designed.
