Kven
Kven refers to the Finnish-speaking ethnic minority in northern Norway and to the language associated with that community. The Kven people are descendants of Finnish-speaking migrants who settled in the coastal and inland areas of northern Norway from the 16th to the 19th centuries, drawn by work in forestry, mining, and fishing. Over time, assimilation pressures and national policies reinforced Norwegianization, but awareness of Kven identity and language revival movements gained momentum in the late 20th century.
