Kvanttipontti

Kvanttipontti is a Finnish term that translates to "quantum leap" or "quantum jump" in English. It refers to a sudden, discrete change in the energy state of a quantum system, such as an electron in an atom. This phenomenon is a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics.

Unlike classical physics where changes are typically continuous, quantum systems can only exist in specific, quantized energy levels. When a quantum system transitions from one of these energy levels to another, it does so instantaneously, without passing through any intermediate states. This abrupt change is what is known as a kvanttipontti.

These transitions are often accompanied by the emission or absorption of a photon, a particle of light.
