Kvantkryptografi

Kvantkryptografi, also known as quantum cryptography, is a field that utilizes the principles of quantum mechanics to perform cryptographic tasks. The most well-known application is quantum key distribution (QKD), which allows two parties to generate and share a secret random key known only to them, in a way that is provably secure against any eavesdropping attempt, even by an adversary with a quantum computer.

Unlike classical cryptography, which relies on the computational difficulty of certain mathematical problems, QKD's security is based on fundamental laws of physics. The act of measuring a quantum system inherently disturbs it, meaning any attempt by an eavesdropper to intercept the key exchange would be detectable by the legitimate users. This provides a level of security that is theoretically unbreakable with current or future technology.

While QKD focuses on secure key distribution, the broader field of quantum cryptography also explores other applications such as quantum digital signatures and quantum secure identification. However, practical implementations of QKD are currently the most advanced. Challenges remain in terms of extending the distance of QKD systems and integrating them with existing communication infrastructure. Despite these hurdles, quantum cryptography holds significant promise for securing communications in the age of quantum computing.
