Kurast

Kurast is a fictional continent found in the Diablo video game series, primarily featured in Diablo II and its expansion Lord of Destruction. It is a vast, tropical land characterized by dense jungles, ancient ruins, and a troubled history. The continent is home to a diverse array of native peoples, including the indigenous Zakarum faith, who have built a powerful empire there.

The Zakarum were once a devout religious order dedicated to righteous combat against demonic forces. However, their faith was corrupted by the influence of the Prime Evil, Mephisto, who established himself in Kurast and began to exert control over its inhabitants. This corruption led to the Zakarum becoming increasingly fanatical and eventually turning against those who did not share their twisted ideology.

Diablo II's storyline sees the player character arriving in Kurast to investigate the growing darkness and to confront Mephisto. The continent is depicted as a land of decay and despair, with its once-proud cities in ruins and its people enslaved by dark magic. The jungles are treacherous, filled with mutated beasts and the lingering remnants of Mephisto's influence. The expansion, Lord of Destruction, further explores the continent, revealing more of its history and the ultimate fate of the Zakarum. Kurast serves as a central location for a significant portion of the game's narrative, highlighting themes of faith, corruption, and the eternal struggle between good and evil.
