Kurahaup
Kurahaup is a notable figure in Māori tradition, specifically within the Taranaki region of New Zealand. He is often identified as a tohunga, a priest or expert in traditional lore and practices. Kurahaupō is also the name of a great waka, or canoe, that played a significant role in the migration of Māori ancestors to New Zealand. Different traditions and iwi (tribes) have varying accounts of Kurahaupō's origins and journey, but he is consistently linked to the exploration and settlement of the North Island.
In some narratives, Kurahaupō is depicted as a navigator and leader who guided the waka to shore.
