Kuntien

Kuntien is the genitive plural form of kunta, the Finnish word for municipality. In Finnish administrative language, kuntien is used to denote matters that belong to or concern the municipalities as a group, for example kuntien verotus (municipal taxation) or kuntien talous (municipal finances).

Finnish municipalities are the basic units of local self-government. They are responsible for local planning, early childhood and basic education, social services, housing, local infrastructure, and related local administration. In practice, each municipality has an elected council (kunnanvaltuusto) and an executive body (kunnanhallitus or kaupungin hallitus in larger cities). They operate within national legislation and funding frameworks and often cooperate with neighboring municipalities on joint services or regional projects.
