Kundavais

Kundavais refers to a group of historical figures, primarily prominent women associated with the Chola dynasty of South India. The most well-known Kundavai was Kundavai Pirāttiyār, the elder sister of the great Chola king Rajaraja Chola I. She played a significant role in the administration and political affairs of the Chola empire during the late 10th and early 11th centuries.

Historical inscriptions and literary works mention Kundavai Pirāttiyār's influence. She was instrumental in the construction of the Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
