Kulttuurikäsityksiä refers to the different ways in which culture is understood and defined. There is no single, universally accepted definition of culture, and various academic disciplines and theoretical perspectives offer distinct viewpoints.

One common understanding views culture as the shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that characterize a group or society. This perspective often emphasizes the learned and transmitted nature of culture, highlighting its role in shaping individual and collective identity. Another perspective, often found in post-structuralist and critical theory, views culture as a site of struggle and contestation. Different groups may have competing cultural understandings, and the dominant culture often reflects the interests of those in power. This approach emphasizes the fluidity and multiplicity of cultural meanings.

Sociological perspectives often examine the relationship between culture and social structures, such as class, gender, and race. They explore how cultural norms and values influence social behavior and how social inequalities can be reflected or reinforced through cultural practices. This can include analyzing how cultural products and practices are produced, distributed, and consumed within society.
