Kultivaride

Kultivaride is the genitive plural form of kultivar in Estonian, used when discussing cultivars—cultivated plant varieties—in Estonian texts. In horticulture, a kultivar (plural kultivarid) is a plant line that has been produced in cultivation to express traits that are distinct, uniform, and stable. Cultivars arise through selective breeding or propagation of plants with desirable traits, and they are maintained through asexual propagation to preserve those traits from generation to generation.

Naming follows international guidelines: a cultivar name is typically a standalone name in quotation marks or single quotes, paired with the species name, and is registered to avoid duplication. The governing Code is the ICNCP (International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants). Cultivars may be protected by plant breeders' rights in some jurisdictions.

Cultivars are widely used in agriculture, horticulture, and landscaping, including fruit trees, ornamentals, and vegetables. They contrast with botanical varieties, which occur naturally and are less strictly controlled, and with forms or populations that cannot be reliably propagated to maintain traits. Examples include Rosa 'Peace' and Solanum lycopersicum 'Cherokee Purple'.
