Gold panning is typically done manually, using a pan that is rocked back and forth in water to separate gold from other materials. More advanced techniques involve the use of sluice boxes, which use the force of flowing water to separate gold from other materials. In some cases, mercury is used to capture gold, although this method is less common due to environmental concerns.
