Krzynia

Krzynia is a village located in north‑central Poland. It falls within the administrative jurisdiction of Gmina Świerzno, Kołobrzeg County, in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The settlement lies approximately 5 kilometres northeast of the town of Świerzno, 12 kilometres east of the county seat Kołobrzeg, and roughly 115 kilometres north of the regional capital Szczecin. Geographically, Krzynia is situated on moderately elevated terrain, with the village bordered by mixed forest to the north and agricultural fields to the south, part of the larger Pomeranian lowland region.

The history of Krzynia dates back to the early medieval period, when the area was part of the early Polish state. During the late Middle Ages it became part of the region of Pomerania, which over the centuries was contested by the Teutonic Knights, the Kingdom of Prussia, and the German Empire. After World War II, the village, like the rest of the territory, was reintegrated into Poland, and its German inhabitants were displaced. Post‑war resettlement was carried out by Poles from central and eastern parts of the country. The village has traditionally been an agricultural settlement, with rye, barley, and pastureland comprising the majority of its economic activity; however, in recent decades, many residents commute to nearby Kołobrzeg and Świerzno for employment.

Today Krzynia has a small population of approximately 300 residents. The community includes a primary school, a volunteer fire department, and a historic wooden church dedicated to St. Michael that dates to the 18th century. The village is also known for its proximity to the Jezioro Krzykowe, a local freshwater lake used for recreational fishing. Local folklore claims the lake is home to a legendary water sprite, a tale that has become part of the village’s cultural heritage.
