Koobrzeg

Kołobrzeg, historically Kolberg in German, is a city and Baltic Sea port in north-western Poland. It is located in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and serves as the seat of Kołobrzeg County. The town lies on the Baltic coast at the mouth of the Parsęta River and is a well-known health resort with a long-standing tradition of seaside treatment.

Founded in the Middle Ages as a Pomeranian settlement, Kołobrzeg grew as a fortified trading town and, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, became a popular spa destination while part of Prussia and later Germany. During the Napoleonic Wars, Kolberg was the site of a notable siege in 1807. In 1945 the town was captured by the Red Army and, following the Potsdam Agreement, became part of Poland. The German population was expelled and Polish settlers repopulated the city.

Today Kołobrzeg is known for its beaches, spa facilities, and historic core. The port supports fishing and commercial traffic, and the seaside promenade is a center of tourism. Notable landmarks include the medieval old town and church, a historic lighthouse, and several 19th‑ and 20th‑century buildings that survived the war.
