Krystallsystemene, also known as crystal systems, are a classification of crystal structures based on their lattice types and symmetry. There are seven recognized crystal systems, each defined by its unique combination of lattice parameters and symmetry elements. These systems are fundamental in mineralogy, materials science, and crystallography for understanding the arrangement of atoms within a crystal.

The seven crystal systems are:

1. Triclinic: The most complex system with no lattice symmetry. All lattice parameters are different, and the angles between the axes are also different.

2. Monoclinic: Has one axis of twofold symmetry. The lattice parameters are different, but the angles between the axes are 90 degrees.

3. Orthorhombic: Has three axes of twofold symmetry. All lattice parameters are different, and all angles between the axes are 90 degrees.

4. Tetragonal: Has one axis of fourfold symmetry. The lattice parameters are different, but the angles between the axes are 90 degrees.

5. Trigonal: Has one axis of threefold symmetry. The lattice parameters are different, but the angles between the axes are 90 degrees.

6. Hexagonal: Has one axis of sixfold symmetry. The lattice parameters are different, but the angles between the axes are 90 degrees.

7. Cubic: Has three axes of fourfold symmetry. All lattice parameters are equal, and all angles between the axes are 90 degrees.

Each crystal system can be further divided into crystal classes, which describe the specific symmetry operations present in the crystal. Understanding the crystal system of a material is crucial for predicting its physical and chemical properties, as well as for designing new materials with desired characteristics.
