Kroppshår

Kroppshår refers to the hair that grows on the human body. This type of hair covers most of the body's surface, with notable exceptions being the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, lips, and certain parts of the genitalia. The growth and characteristics of kroppshår are influenced by genetics, hormones, and age.

The primary functions attributed to kroppshår include insulation, protection, and sensory perception. Vellus hair, often called peach fuzz, is fine and short, covering most of the body. Terminal hair, on the other hand, is thicker, longer, and darker, typically appearing in areas like the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, armpits, and pubic region. During puberty, hormonal changes lead to the development of terminal hair in these secondary sexual characteristic areas.

The presence and density of kroppshår can vary significantly between individuals and sexes. Factors such as ethnicity and hormonal levels play a substantial role in these differences. In some cultures and personal preferences, kroppshår is removed through various methods, including shaving, waxing, and laser treatments. Medical conditions or treatments can also affect kroppshår growth, leading to either increased or decreased hairiness. The study of hair, including kroppshår, is known as trichology.
