Krdlar

Krdlar is a fictional genus of bioluminescent, burrowing crustacean-like invertebrates described in speculative biology and worldbuilding literature. In the imagined ecosystems where krdlar are found, they are typically small, measuring about two to four centimeters in length, and are characterized by a hardened, segmented exoskeleton and a pair of luminescent dorsal plates that can display coordinated patterns.

Physically, krdlar have a flattened body equipped with ten walking legs and two pincer-like claws used for feeding and manipulating debris. Their carapace often bears irregular, glow-marked markings that serve as both camouflage and signaling during mating. Coloration ranges from blue-green to amber, with the bioluminescent plates capable of producing brief bursts of light in low-light habitats.
