Koverhoitumiskenttä is a Finnish term that translates to "erosion field" or "weathering field." It refers to an area where rocks and soil have been significantly altered and broken down by natural processes over a long period. This breakdown, known as weathering, can occur through physical, chemical, or biological means. Physical weathering involves the mechanical disintegration of rocks, such as by freeze-thaw cycles, abrasion from wind-blown particles, or the expansion and contraction of minerals. Chemical weathering involves the decomposition of rocks through reactions with water, oxygen, and acids. Biological weathering occurs when living organisms, like plant roots or microorganisms, contribute to the breakdown of rocks.

Koverhoitumiskentät are often characterized by a variety of landforms and geological features that are a direct result of these weathering processes. These can include weathered rock outcrops, boulder fields, sandy or clayey soils, and specific erosional remnants.
