Kousalya

Kousalya is a prominent figure in the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. She is the queen of Ayodhya and the first and chief wife of King Dasharatha. Kousalya is also the mother of Rama, the principal protagonist of the epic. Her lineage is often described as belonging to the Kosala kingdom.

In the Ramayana, Kousalya is depicted as a devoted and virtuous queen. She endures significant hardship throughout the narrative, most notably the banishment of her beloved son Rama to the forest for fourteen years. This event is a direct consequence of a boon granted by Dasharatha to his youngest wife, Kaikeyi, who was influenced by her maid, Manthara.
