Kostiachitss

Kostiachitss is a clay-rich sedimentary rock formation located in the southern part of Primorsky Krai, a federal subject of Russia. The distinctive sedimentation that led to the formation of Kostiachitss occurred approximately 445 million years ago, during the Early Ordovician period. This geological event deposited thick layers of clay that eventually hardened into the composition characteristic of the formation.

Geologists have identified Kostiachitss as a type of mudstone, which is formed primarily from the compaction of sediments that are high in clay content. Mudstones typically consist of layers of finely textured clays that can have varying degrees of consolidation. Given its composition, Kostiachitss may undergo weathering and erosion processes at an accelerated pace compared to areas with different geological features.
