Kosteusjoukko refers to a phenomenon observed in certain types of concrete structures, particularly those exposed to fluctuating moisture levels. It is characterized by the appearance of visible moisture on the surface of the concrete, even when there is no apparent source of external water ingress. This can manifest as a damp patch or a sheen of water.

The underlying cause of kosteusjoukko is often related to the porosity of the concrete and capillary action. Water present within the concrete's pore structure can migrate to the surface due to pressure differences, evaporation on the exterior, or changes in ambient humidity. This migration is a natural process in porous materials.

Factors that can contribute to kosteusjoukko include the mix design of the concrete, the curing process, and the environmental conditions. High humidity, rain, or condensation can all play a role. While often not indicative of structural damage, persistent kosteusjoukko can sometimes be associated with aesthetic concerns or, in rarer cases, could be an early sign of more significant moisture-related issues if left unaddressed.
