Kosmosejaamadega

Kosmosejaamadega, often translated as "space stations," are orbiting spacecraft designed for human habitation. These artificial satellites serve as laboratories, observatories, and staging points for future space exploration missions. The primary purpose of a space station is to provide a long-term environment where astronauts can live and work in space for extended periods. This allows for conducting scientific research in microgravity, observing Earth and the cosmos, and testing technologies necessary for venturing further into space.

The concept of space stations dates back to the early days of spaceflight, with the Soviet Union launching Salyut 1 in 1971, the world's first space station. Following this, the Soviet Union and later Russia operated several more Salyut stations and the Mir space station, which was continuously inhabited for a decade. The United States also developed its Skylab station in the 1970s. The most prominent space station currently in operation is the International Space Station (ISS), a collaborative project involving multiple space agencies including NASA (USA), Roscosmos (Russia), JAXA (Japan), ESA (Europe), and CSA (Canada). The ISS has been continuously occupied since November 2000 and is a testament to international cooperation in space. Future space station concepts are being developed by various nations and private companies, aiming for lunar orbit or independent commercial operations.
