Korundissa

Korundissa is a Finnish term often encountered in geological and mineralogical contexts, referring to the mineral corundum. Corundum is an aluminum oxide with the chemical formula Al2O3. It is a crystalline form of aluminum oxide, known for its exceptional hardness, ranking nine on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, second only to diamond. This property makes corundum a valuable material for abrasive applications.

In its purest form, corundum is colorless and transparent. However, impurities can give rise to a wide range of colors. The most famous and prized varieties of corundum are the gemstones ruby and sapphire. Ruby is defined as corundum colored red by the presence of chromium, while sapphire encompasses all other colors of corundum, with blue being the most common and sought-after variety.
