Koronaarvereringe

Koronaarvereringe refers to the arterial supply to the heart muscle itself, known as the myocardium. These vessels originate from the ascending aorta, just above the aortic valve. The two main coronary arteries are the left coronary artery and the right coronary artery.

The left coronary artery typically branches into two major vessels: the left anterior descending artery and the left circumflex artery. The left anterior descending artery supplies blood to the front and bottom of the left ventricle and the anterior two-thirds of the interventricular septum. The left circumflex artery supplies the left atrium and the lateral and posterior walls of the left ventricle.

The right coronary artery generally supplies the right atrium, the right ventricle, and the posterior part of the left ventricle. Variations in the branching patterns and dominance (which artery supplies the posterior descending artery) are common.

The intricate network of coronary arteries ensures that the heart muscle receives a continuous supply of oxygenated blood, which is essential for its continuous pumping function. Blockages or narrowing of these arteries, often due to atherosclerosis, can lead to reduced blood flow and oxygen deprivation, resulting in conditions like angina or myocardial infarction (heart attack). Understanding coronary artery anatomy and function is crucial for diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases.
