Kopái

Kopái is a genus of flowering plants in the family Malvaceae. It is native to Madagascar. The genus was first described in 2008 by Paul A. Fryxell. The name Kopái is derived from the Malagasy word "kopay," which means "tree."

There is currently only one known species in the genus Kopái, which is Kopái madagascariensis. This species is a small, woody shrub that typically grows to about 1 meter in height. It has simple, alternate leaves that are ovate in shape and have serrated margins. The flowers are small and white, with five petals. They are borne in axillary cymes.

Kopái madagascariensis is found in the dry deciduous forests of southwestern Madagascar. It is a relatively rare plant, and its conservation status has not yet been assessed. The genus Kopái is thought to be closely related to the genus Helicteres, which is also found in Madagascar. Further research is needed to clarify the phylogenetic relationships of Kopái within the Malvaceae family.
