Kopulapohjaiset (Finnish for "copula-based") refers to a grammatical structure in Finnish linguistics where the copula, or linking verb, plays a central role in sentence formation. Unlike many Indo-European languages, Finnish relies heavily on the copula to express identity, state, or possession, rather than relying on noun cases or auxiliary verbs for these functions.

In Finnish, the copula *olla* ("to be") is used to connect the subject with a predicate, which can be a noun, adjective, or participle. For example, in the sentence *"Hän on opettaja,"* ("He is a teacher"), the copula *on* links the subject *hän* ("he") with the predicate *opettaja* ("teacher"). This structure is fundamental in Finnish syntax, distinguishing it from languages where the predicate might function more independently.

The copula-based system extends to possessive constructions as well. Instead of prepositions or noun inflections, Finnish uses the copula with a possessive pronoun or noun in the genitive case. For instance, *"Minulla on kirja"* ("I have a book") translates to *"Kirja on minulla"* ("The book is with me"), where *olla* connects the book to the possessive marker *minulla* ("with me").
