Kopsupõõsast refers to a group of plants, primarily within the genus *Pulmonaria*, known for their spotted leaves and early spring blooms. The common name "lungwort" in English, and similar names in other languages, is derived from an old belief that the plant's appearance mirrored the diseased lung, suggesting it could treat lung ailments. This association stems from the Doctrine of Signatures, a historical medicinal philosophy.

The plant is native to Europe and western Asia. It typically grows in shady, damp woodlands and prefers well-drained soil. Kopsupõõsast species are herbaceous perennials, meaning they live for several years and die back to the ground in winter, regrowing from their roots in spring. Their leaves are often ovate or heart-shaped and are characterized by distinctive white or pale green spots. These spots are caused by air pockets in the upper leaf tissue.
