Kopolümerisatsioonist is the process of polymerizing two or more different types of monomers together to form a copolymer. This differs from homopolymerization, where only one type of monomer is polymerized. Copolymers possess unique properties that are often a combination of the properties of the homopolymers formed from each individual monomer. The arrangement of the different monomer units along the polymer chain can vary, leading to different types of copolymers.

The primary types of copolymers are random copolymers, alternating copolymers, block copolymers, and graft copolymers. In random copolymers, the monomer units are arranged in a disordered sequence along the polymer chain. Alternating copolymers have a regular, alternating sequence of the two monomer units. Block copolymers consist of long segments or blocks of one monomer unit followed by long segments of the other monomer unit. Graft copolymers have side chains of one monomer type attached to a main chain composed of another monomer type.

The properties of a copolymer are highly dependent on the specific monomers used, their relative proportions, and their arrangement within the polymer chain. By controlling these factors, chemists can tailor the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of the resulting material for specific applications.
