Koordinaatsüsteemi

Koordinaatsüsteemi is a fundamental concept in mathematics and physics used to define the position of points in space. It provides a framework for describing locations using a set of numbers called coordinates. The most common type is the Cartesian coordinate system, which uses perpendicular axes.

In a two-dimensional Cartesian system, known as the Cartesian plane, two perpendicular axes, typically labeled x and y, intersect at a point called the origin. A point's position is then described by an ordered pair (x, y), where the x-coordinate represents the horizontal distance from the origin and the y-coordinate represents the vertical distance. For example, the point (3, 2) is located 3 units to the right of the origin and 2 units up.

In three-dimensional space, a third axis, usually labeled z, is added, perpendicular to both the x and y axes. A point's position is then represented by an ordered triplet (x, y, z). This system is widely used in fields such as geometry, engineering, and computer graphics to model and analyze physical objects and phenomena. Other types of coordinate systems exist, such as polar coordinates, which use distance and angle, and spherical coordinates, which are used in three dimensions. The choice of coordinate system often depends on the specific problem being addressed.
